Meeting Summary

Thanks to everyone who joined us on September 23. Here are the highlights.

Vote for CFOA President. Voting is open on the CFOA website, but fewer than 30% of members have voted so far. Please take five minutes to log in and cast your ballot.

Game reports have moved to the new officials hub, the same site you use for your pass. Unsportsmanlike conduct fouls are now entered under “Sanctions and Ejections.” Every varsity game needs a report within 24 hours. Sub-varsity games need one only when there’s an ejection.

Halftime is a safety rule. Always give at least 10 minutes plus the 3-minute warm-up, at every level and even if the coaches want it shorter.

Blocking. A block that starts legal can become a foul. Watch for contact after the ball is gone, players who separate and then re-engage, and anything done to a player who is already on the ground.

Formations. Prevent problems by telling players “I have you on the line” or “I have you in the backfield.” Never tell them to move. If a formation can’t be fixed before the snap and it affects the play, flag it.

Mechanics. Stop watching the ball on kicks and watch the blocks in front of you. Slow down on breakaways, stand wider as the referee, and stay alert when a player goes in motion.
